Z-axis or Quill DRO for Harbor Freight 12 speed Drill Mill |
I needed to make 3 parts to mount the vertical DRO for the quill or z-axis.
These are a ring to fit around the bottom of the quill, a rectangular block that
mounts to the back of the DRO and a holder that fits to the front of the mill
head. These were milled to fit and I do not have any drawings. If
there is a demand I will take it apart and make a dimension the quick sketch i
made . From the pictures you should be able to make the required
pieces. |
The mounting block on the mill head is mounted with a pair of 10-24 shcs. The
important dimension is that the back of the recess should just clear the front
of the casting. Overall width and height is not that important.
The slot down the center of the mount is just wide enough to clear the 1
x 1.5 x .25" block that is mounted to the back of the DRO. The block is held in
position by a pair of #6 set screws. . |
The ring that mounts on the bearing housing ot the quill is .375" thick and
approximatly 1.25" larger in diamater than the bearing housing. It is split
and held on by a 1/4-20 shcs. Drill and tap 1/4-20 and then drill
the side for clearance. The front of the ring should extend far enough
that you can mount the end of the dro scale mount with a single 10-24 shcs.
I made the ring originaly for a different DRO and had to make an adapter to
get it to come out far enough to mount the new DRO scale. |
The DRO scale was about 1 in too long to mount under the belt cover, so I had to
cut that amount off the top end of the scale. I did this with a emory cut
off wheel on a die grinder. |
