Construction notes on building a long taper attachment for a 7x1x0 lathe.
This is based on a short article in th May 30 1957 issue of Model Enginee magazine   This is a project  in progress and I will try to keep it updated as I go along.
Tthe sine bar taper jig casting.  After several tries I finaly got the gating correct and got a good casting
Front and back views of the casting, note the casting on the left had some problems
Casting was mounted to the mill table using 1/4" square lathe bits as standoffs, and indicated until it was parallel with the edge of the table
Since the casting is longer than the table travel on my mill I had to mill half of the casting at a time.
Using the same indicating method as in the  original setup ,the casting was moved to the other end of the table to finish milling
After milling, a couple of passes over a piece of emory cloth on the mill table cleaned up the milled edge of the casting.
Next part of the project was to spot face  and drill the  raised mounting pads for the end posts of the adapter.
I will be updating this page as I finish construction.  Now that I have the pattern made,if any one  is interested in purchasing a casting please contact me at

A hole was drilled in the fixed end of the casting and it was mounted to a baord fastened to the mill table.  This will serve as a pivot for milling the slot.  First a series of holes are drilled in the casting to remove much of the material in the  slot.
A piece of barstock was clamped to casting and used as a long handle to help milling out the slot with an endmill.       Next the slide assembly.
